Yuki-onna appears on snowy nights as, tall beautiful woman with long black hair and blue lips. Pale human skin or even his transparent make the mixture into a snowy landscape (as described in Lafcadio Hearn famous Kwaidan: Stories and Studies Strange Things). She sometimes wears a white kimono, [3] but other legends describe her as nude, with only the face and the hair stood up against the snow. Some legends say Yuki - onna, associated with winter and snowstorms, is the spirit of someone who died in the snow. [5] He is at the same time beautiful and serene, yet ruthless in killing unsuspecting humans. Until the 18th century, she was almost uniformly portrayed as evil. Today, however, often coloring the story as more human, emphasizing her ghostlike nature and ephemeral beauty. [6]
In many stories, Yuki - onna appears to travelers trapped in a blizzard, and using ice breath to leave them as ice-covered corpse. Another legend says he misled them so they simply die of exposure. Other times, she manifests holding a child. When well-meaning souls take the "child" of him, they froze in place. [3] Parents searching for lost children are particularly vulnerable to this tactic. Other legends make Yuki - onna much more aggressive. Lafcadio Hearn version [edit]
Once upon a time, there lived two woodcutters, Minokichi and Mosaku. Mosaku Minokichi young and very old.
